ABOUT SKOTTA

History

Skotta is a Swedish word that means "shoveling"  snow  it's something every Swede have done and it's apart of a long lasting tradition. It's in our DNA to shovel snow, we go to work and we pay our taxes and we shovel snow. It's that's simpel.

But what if the word Skotta can be something more? What if Skotta is a way of life, instead of just meaning shoveling snow? It can be from waking up 5am going for a morning run than coming back to frying the perfect egg, jumping in the shower while brushing your teeth. To coming to work and putting yourself out there 110% and giving each person someone to look up too. Always being honest and open but with a kind heart. It can be applied to so much in life and it's a way of being productive putting down  hard work without ever giving up. It's exactly like shoveling snow but applied to everything. Hard work pays off in every form, just take shoveling for example it's almost always instant  effect and you get a feeling of accomplishment.

Origin of the word "Skotta" in the terms we like to use it. Back in 2016 when Mattias, Calle & Thomas, embarked on a canoe trip. The goal was to Canoe from Norway to Sweden through Klarälven, we drove up with our car strapping a canoe and a kayak on a Skoda Fabia 2007. We packed the car like it was tetris from the ground up barely having one inch of extra room. We we're all excited to go and without any bigger issues and two days of traveling we made it just outside of Trysil (Norway).

We left the car and jumped down in our canoe/kayak and headed straight for Klarälven. We had perfect weather conditions and we spent the nights in hammocks. We did not have a care in the world and we barely needed to use our paddles.  After about 3 days of pure euphoria we ended up at a waterplant, this made us needing to walk with the canoes for about 20km. We felt a strong urge to get back into the river but due to the heavy white water we decided to wait.. We meet a local man who told us it was safe to get back into the river, and without hesitation we decided to follow his advice. This was a BIG mistake only after 5 minutes in the river we ended upp in a massive stream getting more sketchy after every turn.  Eventually we found our self being 300m away from a big waterfall without the control of steering to safety, Calle who was in the kayak at the time feel out and was no where to be seen.. Mattias and Thomas felt a sense of panic and coulden't say a word and did there best to steer the canoe into land. The only word that came out of Mattias was "Skotta, Thomas we have to Skotta!!".

Eventually, Mattias and Thomas made it into land and pulled Calle out of the water.  All in shock and happy to be in land, it wasen't until weeks after this incident we realised the extent and dangerous situation that we were in. We also did not realise the power and the word of "Skotta". It became a symbol and a word to be used more than just shoveling it became a word just like "go go go", "send it" etc.

I started to use the word in everything from working situations to general "sending it" situations and it spread like wild fire. Skotta will always be there to give me strenght and power in the best and the worst situations..

With this website, youtube, instagram we strive to inspire other people to "Skotta" and to go out and explore the world in it's many differences. But to be comfortable in most situations you need gear and cloths so you can go anywhere without being stopped by the elements.

When I'm not behind the camera, I am selling outdoor equipment. It gives a good balance between being creative and inspiring in both aspects. My best place is with the Skotta team developing pure content for others to be inspired. So keep on Skotta and make others smile.

The vast landscapes of untouched Scandinavian nature, or impressive rock formation in the German Alps have given me perspective in life and more than once challenged my physical and mental barriers. I hope to share some stories, pictures and guides on how to realize these kinds of adventures so that more people can get out there.

Stay safe and respect your environment, keep skotting!
